About

This is Shawn Gentry, Head Coach of the MPMTB THOROUGHBREDS. I want to tell you all how excited I am for the 2024 season. Iā€™d like to challenge each of you to bring at least one new potential Student Athlete with you to each practice. It is never too late to join our team! Anyone can attend one practice before they officially join as a student athlete or coach! That does require that a parent/guardian fill out this waiver ahead of time: https://nationalmtb.org/agreement-to-participate-and-release-of-liability-form/

We also need female riders to join our team. Ideally, NICA wants to see 25-30% of the team represented by female riders. Perhaps there may be female athletes at your school who have not yet had the opportunity to try the sport of mountain biking. This is their opportunity to learn!

Also, riders who are looking for MORE are encouraged to also join CLTMTB Club for additional opportunities to ride 3 more times per week (in addition to our weekly MPMTB practice), access to a performance training plan, and more! Click here for Info: https://www.cltmtb.com/club-2023-24

MPMTB Team Culture and Code of Conduct

The following definition of Team Culture and ByLaws are in addition to a strict adherence to all:
Rules, Code of Conduct, and Safety Standards defined by the NICA Handbook
https://nationalmtb.org/wp-content/uploads/NICA-Handbook.12.1.23.v2.pdf
and Code of Conduct https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CiIF0EI2hAIBYhIxVExYBoxzvMeSPgBRZunKd7J_gaM/
Everyone involved with the team should thoroughly read through those and be willing to adhere to them.

The following definition of Team Culture and Bylaws will updated regularly and as needed to communicate a clear direction for everyone involved with the Myers Park Thoroughbreds.

Team Culture

Members of the Myers Park Thoroughbreds NICA Team conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner at all team practices, rides, and special events. Furthermore, they will follow the rules set up in the NICA code of conduct everywhere they go, at school, and especially on the bike. Myers Park Thoroughbreds should think of themselves as not only members of our team, but also ambassadors for the sport of mountain biking. They should make their best attempt at portraying themselves as a positive, friendly, and supportive rider everywhere they go.

As ambassadors for the sport of Mountain Biking, we will assume that other riders we encounter on the trail are our friends and will conduct ourselves accordingly. Myers PArk Thoroughbreds will always ride prepared to not only solve our own mechanical problems, but ready and willing to help others in need. That includes always stopping to ask a stopped rider off the side of the trail if they have what they need to fix their mechanical problem, offering a tube or

Myers Park Thoroughbreds are also Trail Stewards. We always observe trail closure due to weather conditions, and do our best to never damage the trail or trail features. Going above and beyond, we also do our best to help maintain the trail by stopping for a moment to move debris from the trail, clear and maintain drainage, and participate in at least one trail work day per month, year-round.

Team Bylaws

All student athletes involved with the club will support one another two create a strong team, culture and bond that is supportive and encouraging to promote the highest level of performance from each of our team members, regardless of their personal goals, skill level, or experience.

Myers Park Thoroughbreds is a diverse team that includes riders from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, ages, and skill levels. Therefore, it is highly inappropriate for any student athletes or coaches, to engage in any behavior that would make anyone feel uncomfortable regarding their bicycle, equipment, experience, skill level, or any other unnecessary or unsolicited critique. This includes discussing or bragging about the cost or value of: aforementioned items, accommodations at races, or other club activities, etc.

Any violation of these rules may result in a student athlete being removed from the team. Furthermore, any act of physical violence by a member of the team will result in immediate removal from the team.
